About Us

Protocol is a standardised set of established rules and guidelines governing affairs of state and diplomatic occasions.

The Protocol Office advises Government on the appropriate handling of local and foreign dignitaries, provides training in protocol and etiquette to civil servants and community partners, and works to modernise and standardise protocol procedures across Government.

The Office coordinates official events and ceremonial occasions, ensuring proper structure and the effective role of officials. We also oversee airport liaison and protocol support for travelling dignitaries and, where required, arrange transportation for local and visiting officials.

The Protocol Office is committed to delivering a high standard of service with courtesy, efficiency and cultural awareness. Our goal is to ensure that every official engagement reflects the welcoming spirit and professionalism of the Cayman Islands.

The Cayman Islands Government Protocol Office is primarily concerned with establishing and observing protocols relative to the following:

  • Hoisting of flags
  • Order of precedence
  • Forms of address
  • Seating for meetings and events
  • Order of speaking at events
  • Greetings and Introductions
  • Official Travel

Protocol Versus Etiquette

Protocol refers to the code of conduct or behaviour prescribed for government and international officials. Etiquette is a set of norms and conventions governing social behaviour in general.
