Lifetime Honorific

As of May 2012, the Cabinet of the Cayman Islands extended the title of “Honourable” in perpetuity to all former Premiers, Leaders of Government Business*, Speakers of the Legislative Assembly** and Speakers of Parliament. 

Cabinet decided that “these positions warrant this expression of appreciation on the grounds of the undeniable burden of responsibility that “such individuals must publicly shoulder.”

*The position of Leader of Government Business became defunct following the enactment of the Cayman Islands Constitution 2009, which introduced the new title of Premier. It was formally introduced in 1992 and formalised by constitutional amendment in 2003.

**In 2020, a Constitutional change took place which changed the Legislative Assembly to the Parliament of the Cayman Islands.
