Special Olympics Cayman Islands
Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Department of Children and Family Services
Programmes and social work interventions to encourage client self-determination, supporting children and families to become empowered to make choices that improve their lives.
Department of Financial Assistance
The DFA provides financial assistance to people who find themselves unable to fund their basic needs, such as shelter, food, and clothing. The financial assistance is normally a short-term measure, intended to provide a temporary bridge to help our clients back onto their feet. At the same time, we recognise that the elderly, or those with a permanent disability, may need longer-term help.
Human Rights Commission- Cayman Islands
An organisation whose primary responsibility is to promote understanding and observance of human rights in the Cayman Islands. Its goals are promoting, protecting and preserving human rights.
United Nations Disability Inclusion
UN Disability Inclusion's global mission is to promote the rights and advancement of persons with disabilities within a broad mandate provided by the World Programme of Action (1982), Standard Rules (1994) and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2006), as well as other relevant human rights and development instruments.
United Nations- Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Disability
U.N Member States developed a set of sustainable development goals (SDGs) to succeed the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), whose achievement period concludes in 2015. The SDGs are to address all three dimensions of sustainable development (environmental, economic and social) and be coherent with and integrated into the United Nations global development agenda beyond 2015. This resource reviews the goals as they pertain to disability considerations and events.
