Human Rights Day

10 December 2025
12:01 AM - 11:59 PM
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 10 December 1948 and sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected. Available in more than 500 languages, it is the most translated document in the world. This landmark document enshrines the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. The day was first observed on December 10 that year and has been observed each year on the same date. Each year Human Rights Day has a theme. Some of these themes have focused on people knowing their human rights or the importance of human rights education.
