Elation filled the room as Jovanna Ebanks Wright, Principal of the Sir John A Cumber Primary School, was named the Cayman Islands Government (CIG) Employee of the Year for 2025. Mrs Wright was given the top civil servant award at a ceremony held at the Kimpton Seafire Resort on Thursday, 16 April, in front of top government officials, civil servants and loved ones.

Eighty-one civil servants were recognised last month at the annual Professional Certification Programme Awards Ceremony hosted by the Deputy Governor’s Strategic Reforms Implementation Unit (SRIU) at the Government Administration Building.

The Cayman Islands Government will honour the outstanding contributions of its civil servants at the 2025 Employee of the Year Ceremony, recognise individuals who have demonstrated exceptional performance, leadership and dedication to public service.

His Majesty's Governor, Her Excellency Jane Owen, today announced the appointment of Mrs Gloria McField-Nixon, Cert. Hon., JP, as the new Deputy Governor and Head of the Cayman Islands Civil Service Designate. Mrs McField-Nixon will take up her appointment on 8th July 2026.

Caymanian students who hold a government scholarship and will be 17 years of age or older by 1 May 2026 are encouraged to apply at careers.gov.ky. The deadline to submit applications is 31 March 2026

The gift drive, which benefits young mothers, families and older persons across the islands, invited government employees and community members to select tags from giving trees and fulfil specific holiday wishes.

Today (Wednesday, 13 August 2025) the Deputy Governor, Honourable Franz Manderson gave notice of his intention to retire from the Cayman Islands Civil Service next year. The retirement will take effect on 7 July 2026.
