Waste Management

Under the Public Health Act (2021 Revision), the Public Health (Infectious Waste) Regulations (2002 Revision) and the Public Health (Garbage and Refuse Disposal) Regulations (2011 Revision), the Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is charged with the collection and disposal of all waste generated within the Cayman Islands.

The DEH’s Solid Waste Unit is responsible for conducting these waste management activities across the Cayman Islands. These include collections of residential and commercial waste, waste disposal activities and management of the recycling program.

Waste Collection

DEH operates residential, commercial and biohazard collection services across the Cayman Islands. The use of DEH collection service is mandatory except for large commercial establishments specifically exempted by DEH.

Waste Disposal

DEH provides services to allow responsible management and recycling of solid waste materials generated by the public and commercial businesses in the Cayman Islands. These services are generally located at the landfills located on each island.
