Two Cuban Migrants Escape from Detention Facility

8 February 2026 | Press Release | By: Cameca Parker

The Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control Service (CBC) confirms that two (2) male Cuban migrants escaped from the Immigration Detention Centre at Fairbanks on Saturday, 7 February 2026

One of the escapees has since returned to the detention facility. Efforts are ongoing to locate the second individual. CBC is actively working with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) and other partner agencies to locate the outstanding escapee and ensure public safety. At this time, there is no information to suggest that the individual poses a threat to the wider community.

The public is reminded to remain vigilant and advised that assisting or harbouring an individual, or helping them enter or leave the Cayman Islands unlawfully, is an offence under the Customs and Border Control Act (2024 Revision) and may result in a fine of up to fifty thousand dollars
($50,000) and imprisonment for up to seven (7) years.

CBC urges members of the public who may have information regarding the whereabouts of the individual to contact 911, CBC Intelligence Hotline at 1-800-534-2546, or the nearest police station.
