The 2025 Ballot: A Step-by-Step Guide

17 April 2025 | Blog | By: CIG Communications

On 30 April 2025, registered voters across the Cayman Islands will head to the polls to elect their constituency representative and vote on the three Referendum questions.

Here’s what you need to know to prepare to vote in the upcoming General Elections and Referendum.

Before Election & Referendum Day

1.      Check that you’re registered. Only registered voters can take part in the General Elections and Referendum. Confirm that you are a registered voter by checking the Official List at elections.ky

2.      Know where to vote. You may only vote at your assigned polling station. Visit elections.ky to confirm your polling station.

3.      Bring a valid ID. Voters must bring a Voter ID or valid photo identification to vote (passport or driver's license).

4.      Polling hours: Polling stations are open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, 30 April 2025.

Questions?  Call the Elections Office on 949-8047 or email office@elections.ky

What to Expect at the Polls

Each voter will receive one ballot paper, which includes:

How to Vote

General Election:

  •  Vote for only one candidate.
  •  To vote, place an X in the box to the right of the name of the candidate you choose.
  •  If more than one candidate is marked, your vote for that section will  be spoiled.

Referendum:

  • For each of the three questions, you may vote once only.
  • Mark an X in the box next to either “Yes” or “No” to indicate your decision/answer for each question
  • If both “Yes” and “No” are marked for the same question, that vote will not be counted for that question.
  • Important: If the ballot is marked in a way that could identify you, it will be rejected in its entirety and treated as a spoiled ballot.

Submitting Your Ballot

After voting:

1.     Fold your ballot in the same way it was given to you and return it to the Presiding Officer.

2.     In full view of those present (including you), the officer will:

2a.   Remove the counterfoil at the top of the ballot paper

2b.   Return the folded ballot to you

3.     You will then place the ballot into the ballot box.

3a.   If you are unable to do so due to a physical or other disability, the Presiding Officer will do it for you.

Rules to Remember

  • If you make a mistake, return the spoiled ballot to the Presiding Officer and request a replacement.
  • Do not remove your ballot paper from the polling station.
  • After voting, you must promptly leave the polling station.
  • Once you have exited the polling station after voting/marking your ballot, you will not be allowed to return to vote again.  Registered voters are only issued one ballot.  All choices need to be marked during the one visit.
  • Phones, cameras, and recording devices are not allowed inside the polling station.

Your vote is secret—and it matters.
