Privacy Notice

GOV.KY is managed by the Strategic Communications Unit of the Department of Communications of the Cayman Islands Government (CIG).

The Department of Communications is the data controller for the main GOV.KY website.

Other government ministries, departments, statutory authorities, government-owned companies, or external organisations may provide information or services that we link to. Those data controllers have their own privacy notices and are responsible for processing any data shared with them.

What Data We Collect

We may collect the following personal data:

  • Any information you provide within comments or questions, including your email address if you reach out to GOV.KY.
  • Your email address and subscription preferences when you sign up for newsletters or notifications.
  • Information on how you use our emails, such as whether you open them and which links you click.
  • Your Internet Protocol (IP) address, and details about the device or browser you use.
  • Information about how you use the site (such as pages visited or search terms used).

How We Use Your Data

We use this data to:

  • Improve the usability and performance of GOV.KY.
  • Analyse aggregated data to understand how users interact with the website.
  • Improve our communications and digital services.

We do not link analytics information to individual users.

Our Legal Basis for Processing Data

The legal basis for processing personal data related to site security is our legitimate interests and those of our users.

We rely on consent for the use of cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Hotjar, HubSpot and Semrush. You can choose to accept or decline these cookies.

You must opt in to receive email communications and may unsubscribe at any time.

The legal basis for processing other personal data is that it is necessary to perform a public function or a function of a public nature exercised in the public interest.

What We Do With Your Data

We may share your data with:

  • Other Cayman Islands Government ministries and departments.
  • Our technology suppliers, including our hosting provider (Liferay).

We do not rent, sell or share data with third parties for marketing purposes.

We will share your data only if required by law — for example, by court order or to prevent fraud or other crime.

How Long We Keep Your Data

We only keep personal data for as long as required by law or business need.

  • Feedback data: 2 years
  • Access log data: 120 days

Children’s Privacy Protection

Unless stated otherwise, our services are not intended for children aged 16 or under.
We do not knowingly collect or maintain data about anyone under the age of 16.

Where Your Data Is Processed and Stored

Data generated by cookies on GOV.KY may be processed by:

  • Google, YouTube, and Facebook (United States)
  • Hotjar and HubSpot (European Union)

Data may also be securely stored within the Cayman Islands. It will not be transferred outside the country unless the destination provides an adequate level of data protection. 

Google and Facebook may transfer data to third parties where required to by law, or where third parties process on their behalf. However, they do not associate your IP address with any other data they hold.

How We Protect Your Data

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Systems and processes exist to prevent unauthorised access to or disclosure of your data. We also ensure that we use service providers that comply with the Cayman Islands Data Protection Law and European Union General Data Protection Directive.

Your Data Protection Rights

You have the right to:

  • Be informed about how we process your data.
  • Request a copy of your personal data.
  • Have inaccurate or outdated data corrected.
  • Request that we stop or restrict certain processing.
  • Stop data processing for direct marketing.
  • Stop automated decision-making.
  • Raise an objection or complaint about how your data is processed.

This privacy notice only applies to GOV.KY. Information and services that we link to are covered by the terms and conditions and privacy notices and policies of the entities that provide them.
