Overview
The Port Authority of the Cayman Islands (“PACI”) is seeking a Mechanic to join our Cayman Brac team. The Mechanic is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and effective operation of dock activities through the maintenance, servicing, repair, and inspection of port equipment and machinery. The Mechanic will apply technical knowledge and mechanical expertise to maintain industry-specific equipment used by PACI.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain, inspect, and repair all Port equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Perform routine equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and submit required maintenance documentation.
- Complete equipment inspection checklists prior to operating machinery and report any defects or safety concerns.
- Assist as an Emergency Backup Crane Operator when required. Diagnose mechanical issues, equipment failures, and perform necessary repairs using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with ordering equipment, tools, and parts as required.
- Operate forklifts, container handling equipment, flatbeds, trailers, hammer lift trucks, and other Port machinery safely and efficiently.
- Load, unload, stack, and transfer containers and cargo while ensuring weight restrictions, safety requirements, and operational procedures are followed.
- Coordinate and prioritize transshipments and the stacking of containers to support efficient Port operations.
- Drive vehicles on and off vessels safely and in accordance with established procedures. • Assist with cargo handling activities, including unloading and stuffing LCL units.
- Repair and maintain container yards, perimeter fencing, warehouse facilities, lighthouses, and navigational markers/channels in Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop, dock area, equipment, and surrounding facilities.
- Identify and report potential safety hazards and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, and other specialized equipment required for repairs and maintenance activities.
- Support emergency preparedness activities, including pre- and post-natural disaster response.
- Provide assistance in other operational areas as required and perform additional duties assigned from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Must be a high school graduate with passes in English and Mathematics.
- Must have a clean and valid Group 4 Driver’s License.
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience operating a forklift.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
