21 October 2025 | Press Release | By: Public Relations Unit

The Cayman Islands National Weather Service has advised that on its current track Tropical Storm Melissa poses no immediate threat to the Cayman Islands, but residents are urged to remain vigilant and follow updates from official sources.

It has further noted that the National Hurricane Center continues to issue advisories on Tropical Storm Melissa which at 4:00 pm was located around 656 miles southeast of Grand Cayman. The system is moving west at 15 mph with maximum sustained winds of 50mph.

There remains some uncertainty with this system and what it will do as we move through the weekend.

In the meantime, government agencies continue readiness and mitigation activities to ensure community safety.

  • Drainage inspections and culvert upgrades are underway in flood-prone areas.
  • HMCI is coordinating readiness across agencies.
  • Shelter volunteers are on standby.
  • CERT Members are assisting with Sandbag Operations.
  • Coordination continues with the Sister Islands, National Roads Authority and Dept of Environmental Health.
  • CayMind is operating under normal readiness levels.

These proactive measures reflect our continued commitment to keeping our communities safe and prepared as weather conditions evolve.
