Overview

The Programme Director – School of Hospitality is responsible for the leadership, development,
administration, and promotion of the School of Hospitality at the University College of the
Cayman Islands. The position provides strategic direction for hospitality education programmes,
curriculum development, workforce development initiatives, student and faculty success, and
stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations of the
school, foster partnerships with the tourism and hospitality industry, manage resources and
budgets, and create an environment that promotes academic excellence, innovation, and student
achievement while supporting the University's strategic goals and the needs of the Cayman
Islands tourism sector.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic leadership and direction for the School of Hospitality in alignment with university priorities, Ministry of Tourism objectives, and industry requirements;
  • Directs, administers, promotes, and evaluates the day-to-day operations of the School of Hospitality;
  • Develops, reviews, and implements curricula, policies, procedures, student handbooks and programme documentation;
  • Leads programme reviews, accreditation initiatives, and quality assurance processes;
  • Designs and develops certificate, associate degree, and bachelor's degree hospitality programmes aligned with industry needs;
  • Collaborates with tourism and hospitality industry partners, government agencies, and community organizations to develop innovative programmes and workforce solutions;
  • Establishes and maintains strategic partnerships with private and public sector stakeholders;
  • Recruits, supervises, mentors, and evaluates faculty and staff within the school;
  • Creates and facilitates work-study, internship, and experiential learning opportunities through industry partnerships;
  • Teaches up to three (3) courses annually as part of academic leadership responsibilities;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean, Provost, President & CEO, Ministry of Tourism representatives, or their designee.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

 

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in hospitality, Tourism, or a related field; formal teaching qualifications would be an asset;
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience developing hospitality programmes and/or curriculum;
  • Experience or qualifications relevant to the oversight and administration of hospitality programmes and services;
  • Experience leading, developing, and motivating academic staff in teaching, research, professional development, and project activities;
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, negotiations, partnership building, and business development;
  • Accreditation and quality assurance experience is preferred;
  • Strong knowledge of human capital development trends within the hospitality and tourism sectors;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and database applications;
  • Ability to provide strategic direction consistent with Faculty, University, and industry objectives;
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with large audiences and individual stakeholders;
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously;
  • Ability to manage budgets, resources, facilities, and infrastructure while preparing related reports;
