2026 Deputy Governor's 5K Challenge Achieves Historic Fundraising Milestone with Record $120,000

The Deputy Governor, Franz Manderson, announced at a special volunteer and sponsor recognition reception at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands on 2 July, that the 2026 Deputy Governor's 5K Challenge raised a record $120,000.

Proceeds from this year's Challenge will benefit Special Olympics Cayman Islands athletes preparing for the 2027 World Games, Jasmine, and the Breast Cancer Foundation, supporting individuals and families navigating illness.

"The continued support for the DG's 5K Challenge reflects the strength of our community and its commitment to helping others," Deputy Governor Manderson, who also serves as Co-Chair of the DG 5K Planning Committee, said. "I extend my sincere appreciation to everyone who participated and contributed to making this year's event a success."

 

A record 3,290 participants registered for the 2026 Deputy Governor's 5K Challenge across the Cayman Islands, with close to 2,000 crossing the finish line in Grand Cayman on 29 March 2026, alongside Mr Manderson in what marked his final participation in the event as Deputy Governor.

Over the years, the DG's 5K has become a flagship event on the Cayman Islands calendar, uniting residents across all three islands in support of charitable causes.

During the reception, the committee also confirmed the dates for next year’s Deputy Governor's 5K Challenge, with races set for Cayman Brac on 28 February 2027, Little Cayman on 7 March 2027, and Grand Cayman on 14 March 2027.
