Water Authority to Commemorate 35 Years of Service in Cayman Brac

In 2026, the Water Authority will commemorate 35 years of service in Cayman Brac, marking more than three decades of providing safe, reliable, and essential water services to the community.

To honour this milestone, the Authority has planned a series of activities to be held throughout the year. The anniversary celebrations will reflect the Water Authority’s guiding principles of community engagement, employee recognition, and student education.

Water Authority Director Dr. Gelia Frederick-van Genderen expressed pride in the upcoming milestone. “Reaching 35 years of service in Cayman Brac is a significant achievement for the Authority,” she said. “We are pleased to celebrate this occasion with our staff and customers, while also highlighting the critical role the Authority plays in supporting public health and community development.”

The first event on the calendar is a Customer Appreciation Event scheduled for Friday, 8 May at the Aston Rutty Civic Centre. Visitors will be able to meet with Water Authority staff, learn about infrastructure projects taking place on the Sister Island, engage with Customer Service representatives, and enjoy some food, giveaways, and enter a raffle draw.

Other activities planned for the year include an employee appreciation function and a student education day.

Dr. Frederick-van Genderen added that the celebrations will also recognize the dedication of the Authority’s workforce. “Many of our employees have served the Authority for decades, and their commitment has been instrumental in delivering reliable water services to the residents of Cayman Brac,” she noted. “Through these activities, we also hope to increase public awareness of the water industry and encourage young people in the Cayman Islands to consider careers in this essential field.”
