Small Fire at the George Town Landfill Fully Under Control
The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) advises the public that a small surface fire was observed earlier this morning at the George Town landfill.
Cayman Island’s Fire Service and DEH personnel responded promptly upon discovery of the incident, and the fire was quickly extinguished, bringing the situation fully under control in a matter of minutes. The fire originated in recently tipped waste and the ignition source is unknown at this time.
The Department confirms that there is no risk to nearby residents, businesses, or the surrounding environment. Site conditions continue to be monitored as a precautionary measure and DEH’s ongoing mitigation works continue.
