Residents Urged to Safeguard Travel Documents Ahead of Hurricane Season

26 May 2026 | Press Release | By: CIG Public Relations Unit

The Passport and Corporate Services Office is urging all residents to verify the validity of their travel documents and take steps to protect them ahead of the Hurricane Season, which starts 1 June.

As part of the preparation process, residents are advised to:

  • Check passport expiry date to ensure validity for dates of travel,
  • Check that passport is valid based on the country’s entry requirements. For example, when travelling to the United States, the British Overseas Territory citizen (Cayman Islands) passports must be valid for at least six months after the intended date of departure from United States,
  • Ensure to have the necessary visas/entry permission required. For example, for entry to the USA, a valid US Visa/US visa waiver or in the case of a British citizen passport, a valid US visa/ESTA.
  • Apply for or renew passports before travel time,
  • Those applying for the issuance of a British citizen passport should submit only colour copies of the British Overseas Territory citizen (Cayman Islands) passport with the application,
  • Apply for any necessary visas as required for travel, and
  • Make copies of passports and key documents and store them in waterproof containers in a place where they can be easily accessed during emergencies.

Residents are reminded that travel documents cannot be issued when government offices are closed due to adverse weather conditions. For assistance, contact the Passport and Corporate Services Office at +1345-649-7678 or +1345-943-7678, or via email at passport&corporate@gov.ky.
