Public Transport (Amendment and Validation) Bill, 2026 (LG20, S1)

The Bill amends the Public Transport Act, 2024 to empower the Public Transport Board, define key terms and scope within the legislation and outline the process for permits and fees.

Key Provisions 

  • Provides clear structure as to what constitutes an offence under the Act, outlining the fines and imprisonment terms for those who operate a vehicle without a permit or outside of their license group.  

  • Outlines clear provisions for the issuance of duplicate permits and relevant fees, including circumstances under which fees may be exempted, refunded, waived or reduced. 

  • Introduces a definition of the words “working day” to exclude weekends and public holidays. 

  • Validates fees previously charged under the Act to ensure their legal enforceability and to remove any uncertainty regarding the collection of those fees.
