Minister Rankine Honoured at Commonwealth Youth Summit

Minister for Youth, Sports, Culture & Heritage, Hon. Isaac Rankine was recognised on the final night of the Commonwealth Youth Development Summit 2026, receiving the "Commonwealth Award for Youth Impact," a prestigious accolade presented in recognition of outstanding contributions towards advancing youth development across the Commonwealth.
The honour was conferred during the Summit's Gala and Award Night, held as part of the closing programme of the three-day event at the University of Oxford. During the gala evening, the Minister also had the honour of presenting awards to other outstanding participants, recognising excellence, commitment and leadership among young people and youth champions from across the Commonwealth.
Minister Rankine said: “This recognition is not only a personal honour, but a reflection of the Cayman Islands’ ongoing commitment to investing in our young people. It reinforces the importance of ensuring that youth voices are heard, valued and meaningfully included in shaping the future of our beloved isles.”
During the Summit, Minister Rankine engaged in ministerial discussions with other Commonwealth counterparts and participated in the panel “Youth Inclusion in Practice,” followed by wider sessions on cross-sector collaboration and youth partnership. These discussions focused on practical ways to strengthen youth voice in decision-making, translating youth priorities into policy, and building resilience across democratic, economic and environmental spheres.
Cayman's presence at the Summit was underpinned by practical examples of youth engagement at home. The Cayman Islands CARICOM Youth Ambassador Programme continues to empower young Caymanians aged 18 to 25 to represent the country, advocate on regional and national priorities and participate in civic initiatives. Through that work, young people have contributed to consultations on housing, national development and wider policy dialogue, demonstrating the value of meaningful youth participation.
CARICOM Youth Ambassador (CYA) Alternates Danielle Seales and Diarra Hoyte, also attended the Commonwealth Youth Development Summit and reflected on their experience sharing, “participating in the Commonwealth Youth Development Summit provided a valuable opportunity to engage with other young leaders from across the Commonwealth, share perspectives and contribute to important discussions on youth inclusion.”
The Summit programme, which ran across three days, moved from ministerial dialogue and policy exchange to practical strategy sessions and final recommendations. The Minister’s recognition and participation underscore the Cayman Islands’ commitment to supporting youth leadership, strengthening national youth development frameworks and ensuring that young voices continue to shape national and Commonwealth conversations.
