India’s Consul General Visits Cayman
During an official visit to the Cayman Islands last week, High Commissioner of India to Jamaica and Non-resident Consul General of India to the Cayman Islands, His Excellency Mayank Joshi, met with then Acting Premier and Minister for Tourism and Trade Development Honourable Gary Rutty as part of a series of engagements with government officials and entities. The meeting took place in the Ministry’s office at the Government Administration Building.
Commenting on the meeting with the Consul General, Acting Premier Rutty stated, “It was a pleasure to welcome Mr Joshi for a constructive exchange. Our meeting was an important opportunity to explore practical ways we can work together. We look forward to continuing open dialogue and to deepening the friendship between our countries.”
Mr Joshi equally underscored the importance of meeting the Acting Premier, stating, “We had engaging and productive discussions on ways to increase trade and investment and tourism between India and the Cayman Islands. We also talked about digital technologies and public services."
The Consul General also explained that the High Commission of India in Jamaica is accredited to the Cayman Islands for consular services and noted there are over 1500 Indian residents living in the Islands. Mr. Joshi shared that the aim of this most recent visit was “to promote friendly relations between India and Cayman, particularly in areas of trade, tourism, investment and culture.”
Consul General Joshi also met with Her Excellency Governor Jane Owen. In the meeting, he formally handed over his letter of appointment as Consul General of India to the Cayman Islands. The meeting featured discussions about the importance of disaster resilience and preparedness, as well as trade and investments in areas such as health, finance and information technology.
Another significant highlight of the Consul General’s visit was his participation in a consulate agency hurricane table-top exercise hosted by Hazard Management Cayman Islands to strengthen consulate agencies’ preparedness and response to a crisis and to foster dialogue between stakeholders. The exercise included representatives from the Governor’s office, Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, Customs and Border Control, Cayman Islands Airports Authority and the Department of Tourism.
