Honouring Leadership at the Department of Agriculture

28 September 2025 | Press Release | By: PLAHI PR

The Ministry of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure (MPLAHI) recognises the continuity of leadership within the Department of Agriculture (DoA), which has been under the direction of Mr Wilbur Welcome since June 2025. This acknowledgement reflects the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to succession planning, food security, and Caymanian-led public service.

The Ministry extends appreciation to Mr Adrian Estwick, who served the Department of Agriculture for many years, including as Director, and has now retired. During his tenure, he supported improvements in domestic production, producer training, communications, regional collaboration, and animal welfare, while helping to sustain the annual agricultural shows. Chief Officer Eric Bush offered thanks on behalf of the Ministry: “We are grateful to Mr. Estwick for his years of service to the Department and to the Cayman Islands. His dedication is widely recognised and deeply appreciated.

”Following Mr. Estwick’s retirement, Mr. Brian Crichlow served as Director from 2023 to 2025, providing leadership through the transition to a new era. Reflecting on his contribution, Chief Officer Bush added: “Mr. Crichlow brought steadiness and clarity of purpose, ensuring the Department remained responsive to farmers and stakeholders during this period.”

Looking to the present, Mr. Welcome now leads the Department as Director, guiding collaboration across the sector and the public service. Expressing confidence in the current stewardship, Chief Officer Bush noted: “Mr Welcome brings a calm, collaborative approach to leadership. We are confident in his stewardship of the Department’s priorities.”

MPLAHI reaffirms its focus on a resilient, Caymanian-led agricultural sector. The progression from Mr. Estwick to Mr. Crichlow and now to Director Welcome reflects the depth of experience within the DoA and the Ministry’s continuing commitment to safeguarding Cayman’s food security and agricultural heritage.
