DEH Operations on Emancipation Day 2026

The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is advising the public of the early closure of the George Town Landfill operation on Emancipation Day, Monday, May 4th, 2026.

 

The George Town Landfill will close at 1:00 pm on this public holiday. No reception of derelict vehicles or scrap metals will be permitted on this day at the landfill or the scrap metal recycling facility. However, regular garbage collection and recycling operations will be as normal. Regular operations at the George Town Landfill will resume on Tuesday, May 5th, 2026.

 

Members of the public are also encouraged to use the 24-hour drop-off site at the entrance of the landfill which will remain open to facilitate the disposal of small amounts of waste from residential customers, if necessary.

 

There will be no changes in the schedule for Sister Islands and collections as normal.
