Cetonya Cacho - GOV.KY
Ms. Cetonya Cacho currently serves as Chief Officer in the Ministry of Education and Training. She began her career as a teacher after earning a double bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Psychology from the University of Miami. At age 28, she became Principal of the Bodden Town Primary School, later advancing to Manager of Initial Teacher Training in the Ministry of Education.
Ms. Cacho was subsequently appointed to successive senior leadership positions, including Deputy Chief Officer, Acting Chief Officer and ultimately Chief Officer in the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture and Lands—the largest government ministry with over 1,000 staff.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Higher Education Management) from the University of Southampton, graduating with Distinction.
Throughout her career, Ms. Cacho has led major educational reforms. Notable among these are the revision of the Education Law (2016), the implementation of free school meals, improved child protection procedures and teacher salary increases. Under her leadership, public schools’ performance likewise improved, with three earning Good ratings from the Office of Education Standards. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Cacho played a vital role in ensuring safe school operations, continuity in learning, and student welfare.
