15 September 2020 | Press Release | By: CIG Communications

Have you got a degree, two years’ work experience and a burning desire to do a Master’s Degree?

Are you academically strong, with good leadership skills and a vision of how you see your role contributing to the future of the Cayman Islands?

Then you could be the Cayman Islands’ next UK Chevening Scholar.

Applications for the 2021/22 academic year are now being welcomed and you have until 3 November to apply.

Over 1500 places are available each year to students from around the world and there are over 12,000 courses to choose from. The British Overseas Territories are allocated a specific number of places and the Governor’s Office would like to see strong bids from candidates in Cayman.

King’s College London, Cambridge, Warwick and Oxford are just some of the universities in the UK which throw open their doors each year to Chevening Scholars.

But it’s not all about day-to-day study. The Chevening Scholarship gives you the opportunity to network with like-minded people, experience the UK’s heritage and history, discuss international policy and interact with thought leaders at a range of academic, cultural, and social events.

The scholarship offers full financial support to study for any eligible master’s degree at any UK university.

His Excellency The Governor Martyn Roper said: “The Chevening programme is not only a chance to elevate your career and expose your potential but also an amazing opportunity to contribute to Cayman’s future.

“We’re looking for people with vision who can see some of the dilemmas being faced by our islands and use this programme to find courses which will help Cayman address future challenges. The Covid 19 pandemic is a prime example. Are there key areas which might benefit from additional study or academic focus to support us in coming years?

“We need scholars to provide advice, new ideas and solutions gleaned from their study at some of the world’s leading universities and from interacting with like-minded scholars.

“As a Chevening Scholar, you will also become part of the global Chevening Alumni network, full of dynamic influencers who have shared the same experiences and can offer mentorship, advice and contacts long after you return from your studies.”
