Record Number of Interns Participate in CIG Internship Programme
The Cayman Islands Government is enabling more than 210 young Caymanians to roll up their sleeves in Civil Service and private sector spaces this summer, through the Government’s Summer Internship Programme. This year’s cohort is the largest in the programme’s history. To mark the milestone, the Cayman Islands Government has launched its “I am a CIG Intern” campaign, giving the public a front-row seat to the experiences, contributions and career journeys of this year’s interns.
Running from 1 May to 30 September, the programme places interns in roles spanning 45 civil service entities and 17 private organisations, giving them a taste of real-life work. By the end of September, more than 180 young Caymanians will have completed internships within the Cayman Islands Government. A further 30 to 40 interns will have been placed with private-sector organisations through a public-private partnership, broadening the range of industries and skills the programme touches.
Through these placements, interns are gaining hands-on, real-world experience and exploring career pathways they may never have considered, all while making meaningful contributions to the government departments and private companies in which they are placed. The annual programme is part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to investing in young Caymanians and building a strong pipeline of skilled professionals for the future.
Speaking on the programme and the importance of creating opportunities for young Caymanians, Deputy Governor and Head of the Civil Service, Honourable Gloria McField-Nixon said, “Our internship programme is an investment in the future of our country. By giving our young people the opportunity to develop their skills and explore career opportunities, we are helping them build a strong foundation for their professional development. This year’s record participation is particularly encouraging and reflects the value of providing our young people with opportunities to learn, grow and build the capabilities that will support their success.”
The programme is more than a summer job. It supports the Government’s broader commitment to delivering efficient, effective, accountable and people-centred public services, and plays a direct role in preparing young Caymanians to become the Civil Service’s future leaders and professionals, ensuring it continues to build the skills, capabilities and expertise needed to meet the evolving needs of the community.
