Minister Bryan Speaks Resilience with UN Tourism Rep

Hon Kenneth Bryan, Minister for Tourism and Ports and Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) has recently returned from the second Annual Global Resilience Conference held in Montego Bay Jamaica from 16 to 17 February.

A particular highlight of the two-day event was the opportunity for Minster Bryan to meet with UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili. The two leaders discussed ways in which CTO members could benefit from closer collaboration with the UN Tourism Organisation, in areas such as investments in education, training, research and marketing.

During the forum, in keeping with the conference theme ‘Navigating the Future of Tourism’, Minister Bryan spoke about the need for Caribbean territories to collaborate more closely during times of natural and economic disasters to ensure that destinations could recover faster following a catastrophe.

“As a region we share a collective vision for the Caribbean to be more resilient and able to quickly overcome natures unpredictability, as well as geo-political challenges, he said. This conference provides a fitting platform for furthering that vision, by bringing regional leaders together to openly face and discuss our Islands vulnerabilities, while showcasing our recovery and thriving capabilities.”

The two-day event culminated on the UN’s Global Tourism Resilience Day which is commemorated annually on 17th February.
