MIISD Chief Officer’s Choice August 2022
Computer Services Department Support Administrator II Greg James is the Ministry of Investment, Innovation & Social Development Chief Officer’s Choice for August.
Department of Labour and Pensions (DLP) Leticia Goring and Bennard Ebanks nominated Mr James for Delivering an Outstanding Customer Experience. Acting Chief Officer Tamara Ebanks selected him as her Chief Officer’s Choice.
Ms Ebanks said, “As a long-serving civil servant in the Computer Services Department, Mr Greg James demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to delivering exceptional service to all stakeholders within the Cayman Islands Government.
His dedication and hard work have allowed him to acquire a specialised set of technical skills, making him an asset to the Department and the Government. His continued professionalism and passion for the work he undertakes for multiple clients make him very deserving of this award.” Ms Goring explained that Mr James quickly resolved unexpected and complex IT issues, displaying exemplary service to the DLP. “He solves IT problems calmly and effectively, communicates solutions and next steps to resolve the issues, demonstrates a positive ‘can-do’ attitude, manages his time well, and works diligently to ensure that our Department’s needs are met.”
“He delivers and meets the expectations of his stakeholders, and he proactively delivers exceptional service by carefully listening to the needs of his stakeholders, asking relatable questions, and communicating practicable steps for resolution,” she added.
Some of the projects that Mr James has worked on for DLP include:
1) Coordinated the re-programming of the laptops and tablets urgently required for DLP staff to work remotely during the pandemic.
2) In conjunction with the DLP Deputy Director – Pensions, Mr James assisted the Department with revising a required Pensions Withdrawal Emergency Form, which helped thousands of members of the general public with the ability to withdraw funds from their pension plans.
3) If there were an operating system upgrade issue or if a desktop computer unexpectedly crashed, he was able to research, troubleshoot, and provide an update to resolve these issues promptly in alignment with CSD’s policies and procedures.
Mr James said he’s honoured and humbled by the recognition, and “the fact that a customer recommended me makes it more special.”
He continued, “I enjoy the work I’ve been doing. I like pulling computers apart and fixing them. I also like helping people understand the tech and teaching them how to fix simple computer problems so they know how to do it independently. I help to ensure that the computer systems are working so that when civil servants interact with their clients, everything works, enabling them to produce their outputs. I like helping people because what I do can affect people or the entire island.”
