Mark Codling steers our Preparedness, Planning and Mitigation efforts as Deputy Director, leading national initiatives in disaster preparedness, hazard mitigation, emergency planning, and resilience.

He holds a Master’s of Science in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and is currently pursuing a PhD in GeoInformatics at The University of the West Indies, with research focused on the use of GeoAI, remote sensing, and IoT technologies for flood early warning systems in the Caribbean.

With more than 20 years of experience in disaster management, Mark specialises in emergency planning, flood risk management, geospatial technologies, and disaster risk reduction. He brings a strategic, technology-driven approach to the team by integrating data, GIS, and emerging technologies into planning and decision-making to strengthen national preparedness and response capabilities.

What keeps him passionate about this profession is knowing that the work being done helps protect lives, strengthen communities, and improve resilience before disasters occur.

He's particularly proud of leading the development of NENS, advancing GIS and drone technologies to support disaster management, and expanding the national flood monitoring and early warning programme.
