DG's 5K Challenge raises CI$93,660, 2026 Dates Announced

The Deputy Governor's 5K Challenge 2025 raised CI$93,660, with each of this year's three beneficiaries receiving CI$31,220. The funds were presented to Cayman Islands Girls' Brigade, Cayman Islands Scouts Association, and One2One at a reception held at the Intergenerational Hub on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.

Deputy Governor and committee chair Honourable Franz Manderson presented the cheques and announced the 2026 event dates. The Cayman Brac race will be held on 8 March, Little Cayman on 15 March and Grand Cayman on 29 March.

The 2025 challenge attracted 2,485 participants, marking the largest turnout in the event's history.

Speaking at the reception, Deputy Governor Manderson expressed gratitude to sponsors and volunteers. "This event continues to grow because of your generosity, your belief in our mission, and your commitment to building our community. Thank you for your continued support. Together, we have raised funds to strengthen our community and promote the spirit of service and wellness the DG's 5K represents."

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards. Diamond sponsor Appleby received the DG's 5K Corporate Cup for the highest number of private sector participants. Norman Klein, Managing Partner of Appleby noted, "As the Diamond sponsor, we are honoured to support an event that celebrates community, resilience, and shared purpose. It reflects the values we hold dear—collaboration, compassion, and commitment."

Committee co-chair Jennifer Ahearn praised the dedication of volunteers and planning committee members. "The energy, professionalism, and expertise brought by our civil servants, public servants, and community volunteers ensured this year's event ran smoothly and set a record as the largest DG's 5K Challenge to date."

Over the years, the DG's 5K Challenge has contributed CI$742,660 to local charities, supporting initiatives in healthcare, education, youth development, and community wellbeing.

The 2026 event will mark Deputy Governor Manderson's final DG's 5K Challenge before his retirement from the Civil Service in July 2026. Beneficiaries for the next event will be revealed in the coming months, and sponsors are invited to continue supporting this community tradition.
