Circle of Love Brunch Highlights Older Persons Month

On Saturday, 12 October, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) attended the Circle of Love Fellowship Brunch as part of Older Persons Month 2024. This year’s theme, "Age Out Loud," encourages seniors to embrace their roles as active and valued members of the community.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Investment, Innovation, and Social Development, Hon. André Ebanks, attended the event along with Parliamentary Secretary Heather Bodden. During his remarks, Deputy Premier Ebanks emphasized the invaluable place older persons hold in Caymanian society. He said, “Our older persons are still contributing to the community and have an irreplaceable role in society. They should be loved, respected and appreciated year-round.”
The Deputy Premier also addressed the need for greater protection for seniors, noting ongoing discussions about enhancements to the Older Persons Act. “We are discussing reforms to give more teeth to the legislation because, sadly, there is abuse in our community. We must strengthen enforcement and support the Older Persons Council to better safeguard our seniors,” he added.
Paulinda Mendoza-Williams, Director of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), shared during the event, "Older Persons Month is a time to celebrate the invaluable contributions of our seniors and to remind the community that ageing is something to be embraced, not feared. Our seniors embody resilience, wisdom, and strength, and through the theme 'Age Out Loud,' we encourage them to continue living boldly and fully. DCFS remains committed to ensuring their wellbeing, safety, and empowerment throughout the year."
The event was filled with inspiring messages from various speakers and elders who shared their wisdom and encouraged all attendees to "Age Out Loud" proudly. The Ministry and DCFS extend heartfelt thanks to Circle of Love Women's Ministry and the event’s sponsors for their support, as well as to all those who contributed to making the event a success.
