Artistic Map Unveiled in George Town

Motorists and pedestrians traversing Humber Avenue in George Town will notice a striking new piece of artwork installed at the entrance to the carpark, by the Cayman Islands Beautification Task Force (BTF).
The artwork, which depicts a map of Grand Cayman surrounded by blue coloured stones representing the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, was cast from cement by Hartwell McField and painted by Carlos Garcia.
Minister of Tourism, Hon. Kenneth Bryan, expressed admiration for the artwork, stating, " I commend the Beautification Task Force for their sterling efforts to enhance the aesthetic appeal of our islands. This beautifully crafted piece of art is a testament to the creativity and talent that exists locally, and it not only serves as a captivating landmark, but also reinforces our commitment to showcasing the natural beauty of the Cayman Islands."
Parliamentary Secretary, Ms. Heather Bodden, who leads the BTF on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism emphasised the importance of maintaining clean and beautiful surroundings for residents and visitors alike. "The installation of this stunning map reflects the importance of ensuring that our islands remain attractive all residents and visitors to enjoy. A beautiful environment is a source of national pride, and we all have a responsibility to contribute to its upkeep.”
The project was spearheaded by Ms. Romelia Welcome, a member of the BTF Committee, who shared her excitement saying, "I am really pleased with how this project has turned out and I think it will be well received and admired by all passers-by. This is the first in a series of such projects, and more are planned for various locations across Grand Cayman, as well as Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. It has been a pleasure to work on this initiative and I look forward to identifying other suitable locations to beautify in the near future," she said.
Ms. Welcome expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Planning and Minister Jay Ebanks for granting permission to use the site.
