A Special Way to Celebrate Our Children

29 November 2024 | Event | By: Hollie Whitelocke

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, 26 November 2024 – Universal Children’s Day, celebrated annually on November 20, is a global occasion promoting international togetherness, raising awareness among children worldwide, and emphasizing the improvement of children’s welfare. Established in 1954 as World Children’s Day, the date also commemorates two historic milestones: the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989 by the United Nations General Assembly.

The day serves as a reminder for communities across the Cayman Islands to reflect on the well-being of children and to champion their rights. By fostering dialogue and taking action, we can create a brighter, safer, and more inclusive society for every child.

This year, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) observed Universal Children’s Day with a spirited Zumba Fun Event, celebrating the theme, “For Every Child, Every Right.” The event took place on Sunday, 24 Nov. 2024, at 2:00 PM at The ARC at Camana Bay.

The lively gathering brought together families, children, and community members to honor the rights of children while promoting health, happiness, and togetherness.

Acknowledgements: The success of this year’s event would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors: Cost U Less, The Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise, and The ARC at Camana Bay.

Special thanks go to the dedicated DCFS team, under the leadership of Director Paulinda Mendoza-Williams, as well as the Ministry of Social Development and Innovation, led by Deputy Premier and Minister of Social Development, Mr. Kenneth Bryan. Your commitment to improving the lives of children across our islands continues to make a lasting impact.

Universal Children’s Day reminds us that investing in the well-being and rights of children is an investment in our collective future. Together, we can ensure that “For Every Child, Every Right” is not just a theme but a reality.
