2024 Pirates Week District Days Announced

The Ministry of Border Control, Labour and Culture is pleased to announce the return of Pirates Week District Days.

A much beloved feature of the Pirates Week Festival, District Days offer each of Grand Cayman’s five districts, together with Little Cayman and Cayman Brac, an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to enjoy local cuisine, arts and craft demonstrations and activities that reflect the distinct subculture of each district.

When announcing the return of district days Minister of Culture Hon. Dwayne Seymour said, “District Days are a unique chance to dive deep into the heart of our Caymanian identity. Each district has its own story to tell, and through this event, we are showcasing the traditions, values, and spirit that make our islands truly special. From culinary delights to crafts and performances, this is where our culture comes alive, and I encourage everyone to join us in celebrating our people, our culture, and our rich maritime history. This is not just a festival; it’s an experience that unites us and honors our past while we sail into the future.”

To mark the return of the district days a first of its kind televised drawing was conducted, during which each representative from each of Grand Cayman’s five districts were give the chance to randomly select the date of which celebrations would be held in their location.

Following the drawing the 2024 dates were confirmed as follows:

1.       Monday 11 November – George Town

2.       Tuesday 12 November – North Side

3.       Wednesday 13 November – East End

4.       Thursday 14 November – West Bay

5.       Friday 15 November – Bodden Town

Although Cayman Brac and Little Cayman were not included in the live drawing, Minister Seymour noted that specific dates were reserved both.

6.       Saturday 23 November – Little Cayman

7.       Saturday 30 November – Cayman Brac

This year’s Pirates Week Festival, themed “Setting Sail Through Time”, runs from 8 to 30 November. During these three weeks residents and visitors can participate in an array of engaging activities designed to showcase the Cayman’s rich maritime history, culture and heritage.

Spaces are still available for vendors who participate in this year’s activities. To reserve your space email piratesweek@gov.ky.  The deadline for reservation is Friday 25 October.
