The role communications plays in Government is one of the most difficult and rewarding.
Research has shown that the communications function can help strengthen democracy by bridging the gap for stronger strategic two-way dialogue between the government and citizens. The outcomes are a more transparent government, better policy making and a more inclusive society.
Against the background of global digital transformation and an increasingly complex information ecosystem the need to evolve was paramount to the effectiveness and success of government communications.
Building on this shift the Department of Communications was born.
This growth comes with improved quality, better tailored communications products and greater impact on the community in which we serve.
As the communications strategy is an integral part of Government it must be interconnected closely with all other functions.
Under the Director of Communications, this requires the department to not only own the Cayman Islands Government narrative and communications strategy but to also be the agent for cross-government collaboration whether in crisis, rapidly changing legislation or national public relations campaigns.
Therefore, the Department hosts regular meetings to support public communicators across the Government in supporting better governance, improving policies and services, and building greater trust.
I am proud to work with this team of experts who are passionate about delivering engaging, accurate and timely information.
The breadth of responsibilities needed to deploy such a high-functioning, world-class team helps determine the expertise required and size of the department – therefore we continue to grow and evolve.
